Hospitalized Ghanaian Pilgrim Returns Home After Recovery

A Ghanaian pilgrim who remained in Saudi Arabia after the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj due to illness has returned home safely following her recovery and discharge from hospital.
The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) announced that Hajia Alimatu Muntari, from Walewale, was unable to travel with the main contingent after she developed a serious medical condition while performing Hajj in Makkah.
According to PAOG, Saudi health authorities promptly admitted the pilgrim to a healthcare facility, where medical professionals provided specialized treatment.
PAOG said the pilgrim was not medically fit to travel when Ghana began the return airlift of pilgrims after they completed the Hajj rites.
In line with established medical protocols, she remained in Saudi Arabia under the care of the Ghana Hajj Medical Team until doctors certified her fit to travel.
Following her discharge, the Ghana Hajj Medical Team, working with PAOG, coordinated all arrangements for her journey home.
Specialist general surgeon Dr. Osman Haruna Danamjiji accompanied her on the return trip to provide continuous medical supervision throughout the flight.

PAOG confirmed that Hajia Muntari arrived safely in Ghana and has since reunited with her family in stable condition.
The Hajj Office described the successful return as a demonstration of its commitment to safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of Ghanaian pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage, including after the official Hajj operations had ended.
PAOG said the case underscores the importance of following medical advice during Hajj and highlights the commitment of its medical personnel to ensuring that every pilgrim receives appropriate care.
Chairman of PAOG, Alhaji Abdul Rauf Tanko Ibrahim, and members of the Board expressed gratitude to healthcare professionals in Saudi Arabia for their expert care and collaboration.
They also thanked all stakeholders whose support contributed to the pilgrim’s successful recovery and safe return to Ghana.
