President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence in Allah’s will for Nigeria, saying he prayed for peace, unity and harmony after completing the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Tinubu spoke on Friday, October 30, shortly after performing the religious rites at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, describing the pilgrimage as spiritually significant for him and the country.

“I feel good, I feel fulfilled. It’s a spiritual thing for me and the country, Nigeria. I’m grateful to Allah for this opportunity,” the President said.

Asked about the significance of returning to the holy land after performing Umrah ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu described the latest visit as “very, very significant”.

He attributed his commitment to his responsibilities to the love of Nigerians, while expressing his belief in Allah’s ultimate authority.

“I believe the love of the people, the commitment to the job, and the physical commitment to it. I believe that Allah’s wish in His court must prevail,” he said.

The President added that he prayed for Nigerians to live in peace, harmony and happiness.

“We just pray for our nation. We pray for everyone to live in harmony, happiness, and faith in God Almighty,” he said.

Other members of the presidential delegation also used the visit to pray for Nigeria’s stability and a peaceful electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Businessman Abdul Samad Rabiu, who accompanied Tinubu, said the delegation prayed for lasting peace and national unity.

“We are here in this sacred place to pray for Nigeria, to pray for peace, long-lasting peace for the country, for unity in Nigeria,” Rabiu said.

He added that they had also prayed for free, fair and successful elections, expressing hope that peace and unity would prevail.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum similarly called for lasting peace and stability, describing national unity as essential to the country’s future.

“The most important thing is for the return of peace and tranquillity to Nigeria,” Zulum said.

Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, said the President had maintained a tradition of visiting the holy land to seek Allah’s guidance, noting that he had accompanied him on such visits since 2016.

The pilgrimage comes as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, with the presidential and National Assembly polls scheduled for January 16, 2027.
