BREAKING: Former NAHCON Commissioner, Prof. Badmus, Dies

Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmus, a distinguished Nigerian academic, Islamic scholar, former National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Commissioner of Operations, and past Dean of the Postgraduate School at the University of Ilorin, has died.
The news was first reported by Royal News and corroborated through multiple sources. Professor Badmus was widely respected in both academic and religious circles for his contributions to Islamic studies, education, and pilgrims’ affairs.
He served in several high-profile roles that bridged scholarship, administration, and public service, including his tenure at NAHCON where he oversaw operational aspects of Nigeria’s Hajj management framework.
Born into the prominent Maimasa family in Ilorin’s Gambari Quarters, Badmus’ academic journey spanned prestigious institutions including Bayero University Kano (BUK), the University of Ilorin, and King Saud University in Riyadh, where he sharpened his focus on Qur’anic and Islamic studies.
At the University of Ilorin, he held the position of Dean of the Postgraduate School and was an influential faculty member in the Department of Religions, where his scholarship shaped generations of students.
Beyond academia, he served as Chairman of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board and Provost of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, roles that amplified his impact on religious education and community development.
Professor Badmus was also known for his service as Imam Ratib of Maimasa Family Mosque and Chief Imam of Hilal Jum’at Mosque in Ilorin, roles through which he provided spiritual leadership to the community.
His leadership extended into literature and scholarship; he was the reviewer of the biography of the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Ulama, Shaykh (Dr) Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih.
