The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has expressed sorrow over the death of Professor Lanre Yusuf Badmas, a renowned Islamic scholar and the Commission’s pioneer Commissioner for Operations.

Professor Badmas reportedly died at the age of 69 after a brief illness.

In a condolence statement issued on behalf of the NAHCON Board, Management, and Staff, Professor Usman described the late Badmas as a foundational figure whose leadership was critical to the institutional development of the Commission, particularly in strengthening its operational architecture.

According to the statement which was signed by Ahmad Muazu, Technical Assistant (Media) to the Chairman, Professor Badmas played a pivotal role during NAHCON’s formative years, helping to establish the Department of Pilgrims Affairs as a core operational pillar that continues to support the effective coordination of Hajj operations for Nigerian pilgrims.

“He served with distinction as the inaugural Commissioner for Operations, providing strategic direction and laying down a robust operational framework that remains integral to the Commission’s service delivery,” the statement noted.

Professor Usman further said the late scholar brought exceptional intellectual depth, professional discipline, and institutional integrity to his duties, adding that his policy insights and operational strategies significantly shaped NAHCON’s current operational standards.

The NAHCON boss described Professor Badmas as an erudite scholar and strategic thinker whose guidance enhanced pilgrims’ welfare and spiritual preparedness, while reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to efficiency and excellence.

The Chairman extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Kwara State Government, his academic and professional associates, and the wider Muslim Ummah.

He also prayed for Allah’s mercy upon the soul of the late Professor Badmas and for strength for all those mourning his passing.
