The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has offered intending pilgrims who paid for the 2027 Hajj but could not secure seats the option of rolling over their deposits to the 2028 pilgrimage.

The Permanent Secretary of the Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar, disclosed this during a meeting between the agency’s management and the 23 Assistant Hajj Registration Officers from the state’s Local Government Areas.

Umar said more than 3,000 people expressed interest in performing the 2027 Hajj through Sokoto State, but the state received an allocation of 2,758 seats.

He said the agency made several attempts to secure additional seats from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), but those efforts did not yield the desired result.

The development left some applicants who had made deposits without seats for the 2027 pilgrimage.

Umar advised affected applicants who wish to participate in the 2028 Hajj to process the rollover of their deposits through the Hajj Registration Officers in the LGA where they originally made the payments.

He also said applicants who do not wish to wait until 2028 could request refunds through the same registration channels.

The Permanent Secretary assured intending pilgrims that the agency would continue to uphold transparency and fairness in handling the registration process while operating within the allocations and guidelines issued by the relevant authorities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Agency, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, said Sokoto had successfully registered 2,758 intending pilgrims, in line with its allocated seats and the deadline set by NAHCON for the registration and submission of pilgrims’ details.

Musa commended the 23 Assistant Hajj Registration Officers for their commitment to completing the process within the stipulated period.

He urged them to maintain diligence and transparency while continuing to sensitise intending pilgrims on official Hajj procedures, regulations and deadlines.
