The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and its Saudi service provider, Mashariq Aldhahabiya, have agreed to establish a joint Situation Room aimed at improving coordination and resolving operational issues in real time ahead of the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The development followed a strategic meeting in Abuja between NAHCON’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Yusuf Abba, and a delegation from Mashariq Aldhahabiya led by its Board Chairman, Mohammed Amin Hassan Andangiri.

The Saudi-based firm is responsible for overseeing the delivery of services to Nigerian pilgrims performing the pilgrimage under the government quota in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Abba reaffirmed NAHCON’s commitment to strengthening operational efficiency by aligning its internal processes with those of the service provider.

He explained that the move was designed to prevent the operational setbacks experienced during the 2025 Hajj.

According to him, lessons have been drawn from the previous exercise, particularly challenges relating to discrepancies between flight manifests, contract numbers and accommodation allocations, which disrupted aspects of pilgrims’ processing.

To address these concerns, both organisations agreed to enforce stricter compliance with visa processing timelines, ensure accurate uploading of pilgrims’ data and strengthen verification procedures for accommodation contracts before pilgrims depart Nigeria.

As part of the renewed operational framework, NAHCON will also intensify compliance checks at departure centres to ensure that flight manifests and building allocations correspond with approved records.

The proposed joint Situation Room is expected to serve as a central coordination hub where officials from both organisations will monitor Hajj operations, share real-time updates and swiftly resolve emerging issues during the exercise.

The engagement forms part of NAHCON’s broader strategy to strengthen coordination with its service providers and ensure a smoother Hajj operation for Nigerian pilgrims in the forthcoming pilgrimage season.
