Kano Governor Names Emir of Rano as 2027 Hajj Amirul Hajj

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umar, as the Amirul Hajj for the 2027 pilgrimage.
The governor announced the appointment on Friday during his visit to Rano Emirate, where he attended the wedding and turbaning ceremony of the Emir’s first son, Muhammad Abubakar Isa.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Mustapha Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Kano State Governor.
Governor Yusuf said the decision followed the state government’s established approach of rotating the leadership of the annual pilgrimage among the traditional rulers in the state.
He explained that the Emir of Rano was selected because the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Dr Abdulkadir Ibrahim, led the state’s delegation during the previous Hajj exercise.
“Next year’s Hajj 2027, the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umar, is going to be the Amirul Hajj,” the governor said.

The appointment places the Rano Emirate at the centre of Kano State’s preparations for the 2027 Hajj, with the Amirul Hajj expected to provide traditional leadership and guidance to the state’s pilgrims during the pilgrimage.
The Emir of Rano and members of the emirate expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the appointment, describing it as a significant honour.
The development comes as Nigerian states intensify preparations for the 2027 Hajj following the commencement of registration and payment processes ahead of the deadlines set for the pilgrimage.
The appointment is also expected to strengthen coordination between the state government, traditional institutions and pilgrims as Kano prepares for the next Hajj operation.
The governor’s announcement underscores the administration’s continued reliance on traditional institutions in supporting the organisation and welfare of Kano pilgrims during the annual pilgrimage.
