The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has introduced a structured dietary intervention for intending pilgrims living with diabetes as part of its operational blueprint for the 2026 Hajj.

The Director-General, Ahmad Umar Labbo, disclosed the plans during an oversight visit to the medical screening centre at Dutse General Hospital.

He described the programme as a proactive health management strategy designed to mitigate medical risks and enhance the overall safety profile of the state’s contingent.

According to him, the board has developed specialised meal schedules tailored to stabilise blood glucose levels and support pilgrims managing chronic conditions throughout the pilgrimage period.

The move, he noted, aligns with broader efforts to institutionalise preventive healthcare measures within the state’s Hajj operations.

Labbo further reiterated that Jigawa maintains a distinctive welfare framework, including the provision of three meals daily for its pilgrims, a model he said reinforces the state’s commitment to high service standards.

He emphasised that safeguarding the physical well-being of pilgrims remains central to the board’s mandate, adding that the administration will continue to deploy resources strategically to ensure participants undertake the pilgrimage in optimal health.

The DG also acknowledged the support of Umar Namadi, commending the governor for promptly endorsing the initiative and sustaining policy backing aimed at strengthening pilgrim welfare delivery.
