The Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has concluded the screening exercise and distribution of travel luggage to intending pilgrims across the three senatorial districts of the state in preparations for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
The exercise was monitored by the State’s Amirul Hajj, Mallam Ali D. Sulayman, who assessed the level of preparedness and supervised the coordination of activities throughout the screening process.
Speaking during the final phase of the exercise in Edo North Senatorial District, the Amirul Hajj commended the state government for its sustained support and commitment toward ensuring a successful and hitch-free Hajj operation for intending pilgrims from the state.
Sulayman, who is also the Oghieaga of Ibvie in Etsako East Local Government Area, urged the intending pilgrims to remain law-abiding, disciplined and spiritually focused throughout their stay in the Holy Land.
He also advised them to conduct themselves in ways that would positively project the image of Edo State and Nigeria during the pilgrimage.
The traditional ruler further called on the pilgrims to offer prayers for the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in appreciation of the administration’s support for the Muslim community and commitment to the welfare of pilgrims.
He equally encouraged them to pray for peace, unity, stability and progress in Edo State and Nigeria, stressing the need for national harmony, development and collective prosperity.
Officials expect the screening exercise to be completed successfully, enabling the smooth departure and airlift of Edo State pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj exercise scheduled to commence on May 18, 2026.
