Makkah Transports Over 64 million Passengers as Ramadan Nears Conclusion
By Abdulrazaq Auwal
Authorities in Makkah, Saudi Arabia have recorded the movement of more than 64 million passengers during the ongoing Ramadan period, highlighting the scale of logistics deployed to manage one of the busiest seasons in the Islamic calendar.
Data released by officials shows that shuttle transport systems serving the Grand Mosque have completed over 1.5 million trips so far.
The operations are being driven by a fleet of more than 2,600 buses operating across seven central stations, ensuring continuous flow of worshippers.
Despite peak congestion, authorities report improved efficiency, with average station clearance times reduced to below 60 minutes during high-traffic periods, an upgrade compared to previous Ramadan operations.

The transport network is being reinforced by public transit services, taxis, and the expansion of designated prayer areas across the city, all aimed at easing movement for millions of worshippers.
Ramadan is expected to conclude within the next one to two days, a timeline that also aligns with the deadline for the issuance of Umrah visas for the current season, as authorities begin transitioning to post-Ramadan and Hajj preparations.
