The Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has offered special prayers for peace, unity and stability in Nigeria during the performance of Umrah in the holy city of Mecca.

The Sultan, who also serves as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), performed the spiritual exercise on Thursday, March 5, 2026, corresponding with the 16th day of Ramadan 1447 AH.

A photograph released by his media team after the pilgrimage showed the leader of the Nigerian Muslim community alongside his two sons, Amir and Walid, shortly after completing the rites.

During the pilgrimage, the Sultan prayed for peace and unity across Nigeria, asking God to grant the country stability and progress.

He also offered prayers for the Muslim community nationwide and the people of Sokoto State, where he occupies the historic Usmaniyyah throne.

In addition, the monarch prayed for wisdom, good health and guidance for Nigeria’s leaders, urging divine support for them to steer the country toward sustainable development and national cohesion.

Earlier, before departing from Medina, the Sultan expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Nigerian Muslims, commending their resilience and peaceful disposition despite what he described as challenges faced by some members of the community.

He urged Nigerians to refrain from actions or narratives that portray Islam and Muslims negatively, stressing that such portrayals lack basis in the Qur’an, the Hadith and Nigeria’s diverse cultural traditions.

According to him, such attitudes would neither weaken the faith of Muslims nor diminish their commitment to Islam.

The Sultan also appreciated Islamic leaders and traditional rulers across the country for ensuring that religious activities continued smoothly during his absence.

He further prayed for traditional rulers across the country, noting his role as chairman of the council of traditional rulers alongside the Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who serves as co-chairman.

Reaffirming his commitment to national unity, the Sultan called on leaders at all levels of government to promote responsible communication and encourage citizens to respect the sensibilities of others.

According to him, mutual respect and understanding among Nigerians remain essential for achieving lasting peace, security and national development.
