2027 Hajj: Edo Gives Pilgrims 48 Hours to Clear Balances
By Abdulmumin Aliu
The Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has given intending pilgrims who have commenced payment for the 2027 Hajj 48 hours to settle their outstanding balances or risk losing their allocated slots.
The directive followed fresh guidelines issued by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) after its meeting with chairmen and executive secretaries of State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards on Monday, September 21, 2026.
In a statement, the Edo Board said NAHCON informed states that Nigeria’s 50,000-slot allocation for the 2027 Hajj had been fully taken up, with no additional slots currently available.
The development supersedes the Board’s earlier December 2 payment deadline for pilgrims who had registered and made part-payments, the statement said.
It added that part-payment would no longer guarantee the affected pilgrims’ places, requiring all registered intending pilgrims, including those participating through the Hajj Savings Scheme, to complete their payments within the new 48-hour window.

The Board warned that pilgrims who fail to meet the deadline could lose their slots, which may subsequently be reallocated to states that have completed their remittances and require additional allocations.
According to the Board, the final number of slots allocated to individual states will be determined by the amount each state remits to the relevant authorities.
The Board urged all intending pilgrims who have commenced payment to take immediate steps to clear their outstanding balances within the stipulated period.
It said prompt compliance was necessary to safeguard their slots and secure their participation in the 2027 Hajj.
The directive comes amid intensified preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage, with state pilgrims’ welfare authorities under pressure to complete payments and meet financial and administrative requirements within deadlines set by NAHCON.
