2026 Hajj: Yobe Pilgrims Commission Flags Off Statewide Vaccination Exercise

The Yobe State Pilgrims Commission has officially commenced the vaccination exercise for intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj, as part of efforts to ensure full compliance with international health regulations and safeguard the wellbeing of participants.
According to a statement issued by the Information Officer of the Commission, Suleiman Alhaji Sabo, the flag-off ceremony took place at the Yobe State Primary Health Care Office in Gwange, Damaturu.
He explained that the event marks a critical milestone in the state’s Hajj preparation framework.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Mai Aliyu Usman, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to prioritising the health and safety of pilgrims.
“This vaccination exercise underscores our readiness for a successful 2026 Hajj. Safeguarding the health of our pilgrims is both a requirement and a responsibility,” he stated.
He urged intending pilgrims to cooperate fully with health officials, adhere strictly to medical guidelines and remain focused spiritually as they prepare for the pilgrimage.
The chairman emphasised that medical screening and vaccination are compulsory prerequisites for the processing of Hajj visas.
He disclosed that the exercise is free of charge and decentralised across the state to ensure accessibility. According to him, designated general hospitals in all 17 local government areas will conduct the screening and vaccination.
He further encouraged pilgrims to remain law-abiding and patient throughout the Hajj process, stressing the importance of attending all scheduled enlightenment lectures designed to provide comprehensive guidance on the rites of Hajj and travel protocols.
In a symbolic demonstration of leadership, Mai Aliyu personally monitored the exercise and administered the first vaccine dose to an intending pilgrim.
Providing further clarification, he noted that the vaccines being administered include meningitis, oral polio and yellow fever vaccines.
He explained that the yellow fever vaccine remains valid for ten years, while the meningitis vaccine is valid for three years, in line with the health regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He also advised pilgrims to promptly seek medical attention in the event of severe or prolonged side effects.
Sabo stated that the vaccination exercise commenced immediately after the ceremony, with medical personnel overseeing a seamless and orderly process.
He added that the statewide rollout underscores the Commission’s structured approach to delivering a safe, compliant and spiritually fulfilling 2026 Hajj exercise.
