2026 Hajj: Visa Processing Begins for Tour Operators as March 20 Deadline Looms

Visa processing for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage has officially commenced for licensed private tour operators in Nigeria, as preparations intensify ahead of the annual pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The development was disclosed by the President of the Hajj and Umrah Tour Operators Association of Nigeria (HUTOAN), Muhammed Auwal Suleiman, in an update sent to Hajj Gazette.
According to Suleiman, tour operators under the private Hajj scheme have begun processing printing visas for intending pilgrims following the activation of the visa system by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
He explained that the development marks a critical stage in the operational calendar for the 2026 Hajj exercise, enabling tour operators to begin finalizing documentation and travel arrangements for their pilgrims.
Nigeria’s private Hajj operators are expected to process about 9,500 visas for pilgrims performing the pilgrimage under the tour operator category this year.

Suleiman emphasized that the visa processing exercise is now running against time, as the Saudi authorities have fixed March 20, 2026, as the deadline for completing all visa processing for the Hajj season.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has maintained a strict timeline as part of broader reforms aimed at improving Hajj planning, ensuring that all participating countries and operators’ complete documentation well ahead of the pilgrimage.
Industry stakeholders say meeting the deadline is critical for tour operators to avoid disruptions in travel planning, particularly in areas such as flight bookings, accommodation arrangements in the holy cities, and pilgrim documentation.
The commencement of visa processing also signals that the countdown to the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage is gathering momentum, with operators expected to accelerate submissions within the remaining window.
Each year, millions of Muslims travel to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina to perform the Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
