2026 Hajj: Tears, Prayers, and Gratitude as Gombe Pilgrims Bid Farewell to Home

Emotion ran deep at the Gombe State Pilgrims Board as hundreds of intending pilgrims gathered for their official farewell, marking the final moments before embarking on the sacred journey to Hajj.
The atmosphere blended quiet reflection with visible excitement, as both male amd female pilgrims dressed in simple attire symbolizing humility, offered prayers, embraced loved ones, and expressed gratitude for what they described as a life-changing opportunity.
For many, the moment carried profound spiritual weight. Some pilgrims, speaking to Hajj Gazette on the sidelines of the ceremony, said the chance to perform Hajj, one of the core pillars of Islam felt both rare and deeply humbling.
They urged fellow pilgrims to remain patient throughout the journey, maintain discipline, and prioritize the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage over all else.
Amid the emotional send-off, appreciation also flowed toward the Gombe State Government for facilitating what pilgrims described as a smooth and well-organized preparation process.
Several attendees specifically acknowledged Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahya’s administration for its support, as well as the presence of the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, who represented the governor at the event.
For Zainab Isma’il, the journey holds a deeply personal meaning. Having previously performed Umrah, she now prepares for her first Hajj, an experience she said words could hardly capture.
“This is more than a journey; Allah has invited us,” she said, her voice reflecting both excitement and reverence.
Zainab said she funded her pilgrimage independently, a decision she described as a fulfilment of a long-standing spiritual commitment.
Beyond her personal milestone, her prayers extended far beyond herself. She asked for peace and progress for Nigeria, and for those still waiting for their turn to perform Hajj, expressing hope that they too would one day answer the call.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the overarching sentiment remained clear, a community united by faith, stepping forward with hope, humility, and a shared desire for acceptance of their Hajj and a safe return home.
