2026 Hajj: Saudi Teams Clear 472 Tons of Waste at Holy Sites

Saudi municipal authorities have announced the successful removal of more than 472 tons of waste from the holy sites of Mina and Muzdalifah during the peak days of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
This underscores the extensive efforts undertaken to maintain cleanliness and public health throughout the annual religious gathering.
The operation was carried out by field teams from the Holy Makkah Municipality and the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, who worked continuously across the sacred sites to ensure a clean, safe and organized environment for millions of pilgrims performing Hajj rituals.
According to information released by the authorities, the waste management campaign covered the period from the 10th to the 14th of Dhu al-Hijjah, during which sanitation crews collected and disposed of more than 472 tons of waste in just four days.
The authorities said the large-scale operation formed part of broader municipal services designed to support pilgrims and facilitate the smooth conduct of Hajj activities.
The effort involved teams deployed around the clock to monitor sanitation conditions, clear waste and maintain the cleanliness of public spaces used by worshippers.
Officials noted that effective waste management is critical during Hajj due to the high concentration of pilgrims in a limited geographical area. Maintaining hygiene standards helps protect public health, enhances the comfort of pilgrims and preserves the sanctity of the holy sites.
The achievement highlights the often-unseen contributions of thousands of workers and service personnel who support the pilgrimage each year.
While pilgrims focus on fulfilling their religious obligations, municipal workers continue to provide essential services that ensure the sacred sites remain orderly and conducive for worship.
Saudi authorities commended the dedication of the field teams, describing their efforts as a reflection of the Kingdom’s commitment to serving the Guests of Allah and safeguarding the cleanliness and dignity of Islam’s holiest locations during one of the world’s largest annual gatherings.
