Sokoto Unveils Structured Communication Strategy for 2026 Hajj

Sokoto State has unveiled a structured communication and accountability framework to professionalise Hajj operations ahead of the 2026 pilgrimage.
The initiative signals a deliberate shift toward institutional coordination, risk management and transparent information flow as part of efforts to strengthen governance around the annual religious exercise.
The framework, introduced under the directive of the state governor, Ahmad Aliyu, establishes a dedicated Hajj Media and Publicity Committee tasked with overseeing strategic messaging, stakeholder engagement and real-time information dissemination before and during the pilgrimage.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Information and Communications of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Faruku Umar, the model is designed to eliminate fragmented communication, curb misinformation and ensure that intending pilgrims and their families receive accurate and timely updates throughout the Hajj cycle.
Speaking during a strategic session with heads of media organisations and the members of the committee, the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, emphasised that communication would now function as a core operational component of Hajj administration rather than a peripheral activity.
According to him, the committee’s mandate covers pre-Hajj enlightenment campaigns, coordinated media coverage during the pilgrimage and structured reporting mechanisms to keep the public fully informed of developments in the Holy Land.
The communication architecture also integrates key state-owned and private media institutions, including Sokoto State Media Corporation and Alu Television Nigeria, to guarantee message consistency and broad outreach.
Beyond publicity, the framework embeds crisis management protocols to ensure rapid response to operational challenges and safeguard the state’s reputation during international engagements of this scale.
Bawa maintained that the structured approach reinforces transparency, strengthens public confidence and positions Sokoto among states adopting proactive governance models for Hajj administration.
With the strategy now operational, the state has signalled its intent to deliver a coordinated, accountable and professionally managed 2026 Hajj exercise.
