Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans to build the $135 million Hijaz Eye, a giant Ferris wheel in Madinah, as part of its Vision 2030 program aimed at strengthening tourism and enhancing the experience of millions of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.
The proposed landmark attraction is expected to offer visitors panoramic views of the holy city while serving as a new cultural and recreational destination for pilgrims and tourists from around the world.
Authorities believe the project will encourage cultural exchange and diversify the range of experiences available to visitors beyond religious rituals.
The Hijaz Eye forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to expand its tourism sector, reduce reliance on oil revenues and position the Kingdom as a leading global travel destination through world-class infrastructure and entertainment projects.
Developers are currently seeking private-sector investment to finance the ambitious project, which is projected to generate returns within seven years.

The investment model aligns with Vision 2030’s emphasis on public-private partnerships in delivering major tourism and infrastructure developments.
Once completed, the Hijaz Eye is expected to become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Madinah, complementing the city’s religious significance with a modern architectural attraction designed to appeal to both domestic and international visitors.
Industry observers have compared the project to Dubai’s famous Ain Dubai observation wheel, positioning the Hijaz Eye as a regional competitor in the Middle East’s growing tourism and entertainment market.
The development reflects Saudi Arabia’s determination to create iconic attractions capable of drawing visitors throughout the year.
The Kingdom has invested heavily in large-scale tourism projects under Vision 2030, including new cultural, entertainment and heritage destinations aimed at attracting millions of international visitors annually.
If realized as planned, the Hijaz Eye is expected to strengthen Madinah’s appeal as both a spiritual destination and a modern tourism hub, supporting Saudi Arabia’s long-term economic diversification agenda while enriching the overall experience of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from across the world.
