Niger Pilgrims to Receive SR123 Refund from Hajj Board

The Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board has announced plans to refund SR123 to each pilgrim from the state who participated in the 2026 Hajj exercise following the reconciliation of the Basic Travelling Allowance (BTA).
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, explaining that the refund resulted from a review of exchange rates recorded during the disbursement of BTA to pilgrims.
According to him, the review revealed a surplus after all transactions and logistical arrangements connected to the pilgrimage had been completed.
Aliyu stated that the surplus amounted to approximately N46,000 per pilgrim. He explained that the amount was converted into Saudi Riyals at an exchange rate of N375 per riyal, translating to about SR123 for each beneficiary.
He said the Board had concluded all necessary arrangements to ensure that eligible pilgrims receive their refunds promptly and without unnecessary delays.
The Executive Secretary noted that the decision to return the excess funds reflects the Board’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent financial management in the administration of Hajj operations.
He urged beneficiaries to contact their respective Area Pilgrims Welfare Officers (APWOs) or other designated officials to facilitate the refund collection process.
Aliyu also commended pilgrims from the state for their cooperation, discipline and adherence to guidelines throughout the Hajj exercise, describing their conduct as commendable.
He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to improving service delivery and strengthening welfare initiatives for pilgrims in future Hajj operations.
“The refund demonstrates our resolve to manage resources responsibly while ensuring that pilgrims benefit from every entitlement due to them,” he said.
The Niger State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board further reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the welfare of pilgrims and maintaining best practices in the planning and administration of Hajj activities.
