The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has concluded arrangements to refund N163.59 million in excess Hajj deposits to 500 intending pilgrims preparing for the 2027 pilgrimage.
The refunds follow the announcement of the final Hajj fare of N7,672,822, lower than the initial N8 million deposited by each of the affected pilgrims.
Director-General of the board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, disclosed this in Kano, saying each eligible pilgrim would receive a refund of N327,178.
The total refund amounts to N163,589,000 for the 500 pilgrims who initially paid the higher amount.
Matawalle urged the affected pilgrims to submit the required documents through their respective Local Government Hajj Centre officers to facilitate the payment process.

The documents include bank account details, a photocopy of the original payment receipt and a formal letter requesting a refund.
He directed all eligible pilgrims to submit their documents on or before Monday, October 26, 2026, to enable the board to commence payments.
The director-general also commended the Kano State Government for its continued support and commitment to the welfare of intending pilgrims.
The refund arrangement provides relief to the affected pilgrims following the reduction of the final fare below their initial deposits.
