Jigawa Records Rare Marriage Ceremony in Makkah After Hajj Rituals

A member of the Jigawa State Hajj delegation has become the center of a rare and memorable event in Makkah after marrying a fellow educator shortly after the completion of the 2026 Hajj rites.
Malam Abdulmumin Abdulkarim, a trainer with the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, and Malama Salamatu Duku, a literacy teacher from Guri Local Government Area, were joined in matrimony at the Board’s office in Makkah in the presence of government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, and senior Hajj administrators.
The marriage contract was conducted according to Islamic teachings by the Chief Imam of Gumel Emirate, Dr. Kabir Usman Gwarzo, while the bride’s guardian, Abdullahi Gaji Wuri, formally gave her hand in marriage before witnesses.
Among those present at the ceremony were the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Ahmad Umar Labbo, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, commissioners, members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly and other officials overseeing the state’s 2026 Hajj operations.
Participants described the event as one of the most unusual moments of this year’s pilgrimage for the state delegation. Although marriages among pilgrims occasionally occur in Saudi Arabia, the solemnization of a marriage involving members of an official Hajj delegation within the framework of state pilgrimage operations is considered rare.
Sources close to the couple said their relationship began shortly after the completion of Hajj rituals and quickly progressed to a formal proposal and marriage.
The Executive Secretary of the Board confirmed that the couple fulfilled all legal requirements, including mandatory medical screening prescribed by Jigawa State before marriage approval.
Labbo paid the N200,000 dowry and sponsored the wedding reception, where guests were served rice, mutton and refreshments.
The groom expressed gratitude to Allah for the union, describing his bride as a respected educator and scholar. He said the marriage was founded on faith, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to service.
