Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged continued support for the state’s Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board ahead of the 2027 Hajj exercise, following the Board’s commendable performance during the 2026 pilgrimage.

Governor Okpebholo made the commitment on Tuesday at the Government House, Benin City, while receiving the report of the 2026 Hajj exercise from the leadership of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

The Governor commended the Board for its coordination of the 2026 pilgrimage, saying he personally followed the activities of Edo pilgrims throughout the exercise and was satisfied with the level of welfare and services provided.

He also congratulated the Board on the recognition it received from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for its patience, perseverance and effective coordination during the 2026 Hajj.

According to him, the recognition reflects the dedication of the Board and its commitment to ensuring that Edo pilgrims had a smooth and successful pilgrimage.

Okpebholo urged the Board to commence preparations for the 2027 Hajj early, stressing the need to consolidate the gains recorded in 2026 and identify areas requiring further improvement.

“I urge you to begin early with the preparation for the 2027 Hajj exercise. You will have my support in everything that is required to improve on it. I know you will do better,” the Governor said.

The Governor’s pledge is expected to provide further impetus to the state’s preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage, particularly in strengthening pilgrims’ welfare, service delivery and overall coordination.

The report presentation was led by the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musa Muhammad Uduimoh, alongside the Executive Secretary, Alhaji Abdulkabir Muhammadkabir Eranga.

The presentation provided an opportunity to review the successes and challenges of the 2026 Hajj exercise and draw lessons for improved planning and execution of the 2027 operation.
