The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has bid farewell to 1,134 intending Muslim pilgrims ahead of the 2026 Hajj in Mecca.

During the ceremony, the governor urged them to uphold discipline and represent the state and Nigeria with dignity.

The farewell ceremony took place on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the premises of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in Jos, drawing government officials, religious leaders, and families of the pilgrims.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mutfwang prayed for the safety and successful pilgrimage of the intending pilgrims, expressing confidence that they would return home in peace.

He called on them to approach the spiritual exercise with devotion and to embody values that reflect positively on Plateau State.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, warning individuals’ intent on destabilizing the state to desist from actions capable of undermining development.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Daiyabu Dauda, said the delegation includes 570 government-sponsored pilgrims and 564 self-sponsored pilgrims.

He commended the governor for sustained support, citing the provision of a permanent office for the Board, logistical assistance, and the distribution of ihram garments and hijabs to all pilgrims.

Dauda further highlighted the governor’s intervention during the 2025 Hajj, when additional meals were approved for pilgrims during a challenging period, describing the move as timely and compassionate.

Also speaking, the Amirul Hajj for 2026, Idris Wase, urged the pilgrims to remain law-abiding, prayerful, and cooperative throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that their conduct would reflect the image of Plateau State and Nigeria.

Wase commended the governor’s engagement with the Muslim community and called for continued support for the administration.

The event marks a key milestone in Plateau State’s preparations for the 2026 Hajj, underscoring ongoing efforts to promote religious harmony and improve the welfare of citizens.
