By Abdulrazaq Auwal
The Imam of Masjid Al-Haram, Sheikh Dr. Bandar Baleelah, has warned Muslims against fraudulent Hajj campaigns, cybercrime and digital misinformation, urging the Ummah to remain vigilant against criminal networks exploiting digital platforms to deceive pilgrims and undermine social stability.
Sheikh Baleelah issued the warning during Friday’s sermon on September 18, 2026, which focused on the divine blessing of security and stability and the collective responsibility to protect it.
The Imam cautioned that emerging digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, could be exploited to manufacture fabricated videos, spread false information and facilitate fraudulent activities targeting members of the public.
He specifically highlighted fake Hajj campaigns among the threats requiring greater public awareness, as fraudsters increasingly use digital platforms to circulate misleading information and potentially deceive prospective pilgrims.
The sermon also called for a firm and wise response to networks involved in spreading lies, inciting rebellion, committing fraud and creating content capable of threatening social cohesion.

Sheikh Baleelah stressed the absolute inviolability of the security of the Holy Sites and innocent lives, describing any attempt to threaten or undermine their safety as a red line that must not be crossed.
He also condemned the approach of the Houthi group, describing its actions and philosophy as evidence of ideological deviation and misguided thinking.
The Imam urged Muslims to remain united amid global upheavals and called on young people to protect their religious and moral identity while resisting harmful influences.
He further reminded worshippers of the blessings of national unity and stability, urging them to demonstrate gratitude by contributing to the preservation of peace and social cohesion.
The sermon ended with prayers for Allah to protect Saudi Arabia, preserve its blessings of faith, security and stability, and shield the Kingdom and its people from aggressors and harmful tribulations.
It also invoked the Qur’anic description of Makkah as a secure sanctuary, reinforcing the message that preserving peace and protecting the sanctity of the Holy Sites remain shared responsibilities.
