Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf has been screened and cleared by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs to assume office as Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The screening exercise, conducted at the National Assembly, was presided over by the Chairman of the Committee, Yahaya Sani Bello.
During the session, the nominee fielded questions from lawmakers on his qualifications, administrative capacity and strategic priorities for the commission.
Committee members focused on his capacity to provide strategic direction, strengthen institutional governance and enhance operational efficiency within the commission.
After deliberations, the committee cleared Ambassador Yusuf, commending his qualifications and leadership profile. Members described him as suitably equipped to reposition the commission and restore stability to its operations.
The lawmakers urged the incoming chairman to prioritize institutional stability, improve coordination with key stakeholders and ensure a seamless framework for Hajj administration.
The committee also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a well-considered appointment, noting that the nomination reflects a commitment to strengthening the management of Hajj affairs in Nigeria.
With the committee’s endorsement secured, the nomination now awaits confirmation by the full Senate, after which Ambassador Yusuf will take charge as substantive NAHCON chairman.
