President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah and pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity and stability, the Presidency has announced.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the Islamic pilgrimage, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The statement said the visit would provide Tinubu an opportunity for spiritual reflection and devotion while seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.
“While in Makkah, President Tinubu will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people,” the statement said.
Before departing Abuja, the President will commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The Presidency did not provide further details about the equipment or its operational capabilities in the statement.
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that Muslims can perform at various times of the year, unlike Hajj, which takes place during specific dates in the Islamic calendar.
The planned visit comes as the President prepares to spend time in Saudi Arabia for the spiritual exercise before returning to the country next week.
