The Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission has called for stronger collaboration with the media to improve public enlightenment, transparency and information dissemination on Hajj and Umrah operations.

The Acting Executive Chairman of the Commission, Malam Abubakar Salihu, made the call on Tuesday when the management of Fombina FM Radio, Yola, led by its General Manager, Malam Mohammad Babayo Asha, paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters.

Salihu, who is also the District Head and Wakili Gurin, said a stronger partnership with the media would enhance the Commission’s engagement with prospective pilgrims and the wider public.

He described the visit as timely, stressing that the media plays a critical role in providing accurate information and shaping public understanding of pilgrimage activities.

“We recognise the power of the media in shaping public perception and providing vital information to our pilgrims,” he said.

The Acting Chairman pledged the Commission’s readiness to work closely with Fombina FM, particularly in disseminating official guidelines, schedules and other information relating to Hajj and Umrah.

He, however, urged the station to go beyond promoting the Commission’s activities and serve as an independent watchdog by identifying lapses and areas requiring improvement.

According to him, constructive criticism would enable the Commission to correct shortcomings and strengthen its service delivery to pilgrims.

Earlier, Asha said the visit was aimed at establishing a robust working relationship between Fombina FM and the Commission.

He said the station remained committed to grassroots communication and public enlightenment, adding that partnership with the Commission would help ensure that members of the public received timely and relevant information about its mandate and welfare programmes.

The Fombina FM management also congratulated Salihu on his appointment as District Head of Gurin and commended his efforts towards improving pilgrimage operations.

The meeting is expected to strengthen information flow and public engagement on Hajj and Umrah activities in Adamawa State.
