Emir of Zazzau Backs NAHCON Reforms, Calls for Greater Efficiency in Hajj Operations
By Auwal Ahmad Umar
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has pledged the support of the traditional institution to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), while urging the commission to strengthen efficiency and transparency in the conduct of Hajj operations.
The emir made the commitment when he visited the NAHCON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
This was contained in a statement signed by Shafii Sani Mohammed, Head of the Information and Publications Division of NAHCON, and made available to Hajj Gazette News and Current Affairs in Abuja on Wednesday.
Mr Bamalli said traditional institutions have an important role to play in mobilising and educating prospective pilgrims, particularly on the requirements and procedures for a smooth Hajj exercise.
He commended NAHCON’s ongoing efforts to improve the administration of Hajj, noting that coordinating the movement and welfare of thousands of Nigerian pilgrims requires careful planning, accountability and sustained commitment.
“Hajj is a significant spiritual journey, and the comfort, safety and well-being of our people while fulfilling this religious obligation must remain paramount,” the emir said.
“We are here to offer our prayers, counsel and support to NAHCON. We also urge the commission to sustain its drive towards structural efficiency, early preparations and transparent communication to overcome recurring operational challenges.”
The royal father said the Zazzau Emirate and other traditional institutions would continue to support efforts aimed at ensuring that Nigerian pilgrims receive adequate guidance before and during the pilgrimage.
Responding, Mr Yusuf thanked the Emir of Zazzau for the visit, describing it as an important source of encouragement to the commission’s management and staff.
He briefed the emir on some of NAHCON’s recent policy initiatives, digital innovations and partnerships designed to improve the Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
According to him, the measures are focused on reducing operational costs, improving accommodation and feeding arrangements, and making the airlift process more efficient.
The NAHCON chairman assured the emir that the commission would consider the recommendations and observations made during the meeting.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving Hajj administration and providing services that meet the expectations of the Nigerian government and Muslim pilgrims.
