Hajj 2027: Saudi Makes Health Clearance Mandatory for Visa Issuance

Saudi Arabia has made medical fitness clearance mandatory for pilgrims seeking to perform the 2027 Hajj, with health certificates to be processed through the Nusuk Masar platform before visas can be issued.
The requirement, introduced by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah as part of preparations for the 1448H pilgrimage, requires prospective pilgrims to undergo medical assessments to determine their fitness to withstand the physical demands of Hajj.
The policy is also aimed at protecting pilgrims and reducing public health risks during the pilgrimage, which involves prolonged walking, exposure to high temperatures and large crowds.
Under the new process, pilgrims must complete prescribed medical examinations in their respective countries, with the results used to generate a Health Clearance Certificate through Nusuk Masar.
The certificate will serve as a prerequisite for Hajj visa issuance, while Saudi authorities may verify pilgrims’ health-clearance status at entry points.
The medical clearance is separate from mandatory vaccination requirements. Pilgrims must still obtain required vaccines, including the meningococcal ACWY vaccine, alongside any other vaccinations stipulated by Saudi health authorities.
Saudi health guidelines also identify medical conditions that may prevent prospective pilgrims from being cleared for Hajj.

These include major organ failure, such as dialysis-dependent kidney failure and severe heart failure; chronic lung disease requiring oxygen; severe neurological or psychiatric conditions affecting cognition or mobility.
Advanced age accompanied by dementia; high-risk pregnancy, particularly during the final trimester; active cancer undergoing chemotherapy or intensive immunosuppressive treatment; and infectious diseases that pose a public health risk, including active pulmonary tuberculosis.
The guidelines further require pilgrims to have sufficient physical capacity to perform the rites independently. While walking sticks may be permitted for pilgrims requiring light support, those who are fully dependent on wheelchairs or mobility scooters may not meet the medical fitness requirements.
Implementation details, including screening procedures and deadlines, may vary between countries.
Pilgrims have therefore been advised to follow instructions issued by their respective national Hajj authorities and use official Nusuk Masar channels rather than relying on unofficial information.
The mandatory health-clearance system is expected to make medical screening a more integral part of the Hajj visa process ahead of the 2027 pilgrimage.
