8 Sacred Tools Set for June 30 Kaaba Washing

The annual washing of the Holy Kaaba, known as Ghusl al-Kaaba, will take place on Tuesday, June 30, as custodians prepare to perform one of Islam’s most sacred rituals using eight specially designated tools and materials.
Held every year on the 15th of Muharram in the Islamic calendar, the ceremony symbolizes the purification and preservation of the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam located at the center of the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
The ritual begins with a specially designed jug used to spray a mixture of Zamzam water and rose water across the interior of the Kaaba.
Custodians combine the blessed Zamzam water, revered by Muslims worldwide, with fragrant rose water to cleanse and perfume the sacred structure.
After spraying the cleansing mixture, custodians use specially selected aromatic spices to enhance the fragrance within the Kaaba. They then use a dedicated container to dampen soft cloths for wiping the interior walls.

A large gallon stores sufficient quantities of the Zamzam and rose water mixture throughout the cleansing exercise.
A ceremonial bowl helps custodians prepare the cleansing mixture before they apply it to the Kaaba’s walls with soft cloths.
The cloths gently remove dust while preserving the integrity and sanctity of the revered structure.
The ritual continues as custodians apply rose water inside the Kaaba to fill the sacred space with a pleasant fragrance.
The ritual concludes with the use of a traditional copper incense burner, which fills the interior with aromatic incense and reinforces the solemnity of the occasion.
The annual Ghusl al-Kaaba reflects the deep reverence Muslims hold for the sacred sanctuary and the meticulous care devoted to preserving its purity.
Every tool used in the ceremony serves a distinct purpose, ensuring the Kaaba remains clean and dignified for millions of worshippers who visit the holy site each year for Hajj and Umrah.
