2027 Hajj: NAHCON Targets Investments to Cut Costs

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says it plans to begin strategic investments in Hajj-related infrastructure by 2027 as part of efforts to reduce pilgrimage costs and reduce reliance on government funding.
NAHCON Chairman and CEO, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from Indonesia’s Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) during a courtesy visit in Makkah.
He said the commission is exploring a more sustainable and self-reliant operational model that would improve service delivery and enhance efficiency in Hajj operations.
He said NAHCON is keen to learn from Indonesia’s expertise in managing and investing Hajj funds, adding that investments in facilities such as hotels could help lower accommodation costs for Nigerian pilgrims.
“If you invest well, perhaps by building hotels, we will patronize you. This could help us reduce the cost of accommodation for our pilgrims,” Yusuf said.
He added that the planned investments form part of a long-term strategy to gradually reduce the need for periodic government financial interventions in Hajj operations.
Leader of the Indonesian delegation, Prof. Arif Mufraini, said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between both institutions, particularly in Hajj fund management and pilgrim services.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange ideas on improving Hajj administration, pilgrim welfare and sustainable funding models.
