The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have begun strengthening security and crowd management coordination ahead of the 2027 Hajj operations.

The initiative followed a meeting between the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, at Hajj House in Abuja on Wednesday.

The discussions focused on deepening existing collaboration between the two agencies in security, crowd movement management, pilgrims’ safety and effective coordination during Hajj operations.

Audi commended the NAHCON leadership for its ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s Hajj administration and assured the Commission of the NSCDC’s continued support and cooperation.

He said the Corps remained committed to supporting efforts that would enhance the safety and orderly movement of Nigerian pilgrims during Hajj operations.

Responding, the NAHCON Chairman appreciated the Commandant General for the visit and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the NSCDC.

Yusuf said sustained inter-agency cooperation was critical to safeguarding Nigerian pilgrims and ensuring the smooth conduct of Hajj operations.

The meeting comes as preparations for the 2027 Hajj gain momentum, with NAHCON and other stakeholders expected to coordinate security and operational arrangements ahead of the movement of thousands of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

Crowd management remains a critical component of Hajj operations due to the large number of pilgrims converging at key religious sites and transportation points within limited periods.

NAHCON said stronger collaboration with security agencies would support the Commission’s efforts to improve pilgrims’ safety and welfare while ensuring better coordination throughout the Hajj exercise.

The engagement also highlights the importance of early inter-agency planning as Nigeria prepares for another Hajj season involving state pilgrims’ welfare agencies, tour operators, airlines and other stakeholders.
