Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has called on the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure the timely processing of international passports for pilgrims ahead of the 2026 Hajj.

The appeal was made by the Board’s Director General, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, during a courtesy visit to the NIS Passport Control Office in Kano.

Matawalle highlighted that with the 2026 Hajj visa issuance set for February 8, many intending pilgrims have yet to receive their international passports. He emphasized the need for urgent intervention to prevent pilgrims from missing the deadline.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Comrade Sulaiman Dederi, the Public Relations Officer of the Board.

According to him, to streamline the process, the Board plans to introduce a special identification form to help immigration officials quickly identify pilgrims requiring expedited passport processing.

Responding, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration at the center, Alhaji Aliyu Hamisu Nguroje, assured the Board of the Service’s commitment to supporting pilgrims in meeting the visa timeline.

He also welcomed the proposed identification form, noting that it would enhance collaboration between both institutions for effective service delivery.

Nguroje described the Board’s visit as timely and appreciated the proactive approach toward facilitating smooth Hajj preparations.

The Director General was accompanied by all directors of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board during the visit.
