Poor Hajj Service Providers to Face Sanctions as NAHCON Tightens Accountability

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has warned that Hajj service providers who fail to meet contractual obligations will face sanctions under a new accountability framework aimed at improving service delivery for Nigerian pilgrims.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, issued the warning on Wednesday while delivering his opening address at the Stakeholders’ Summit on the Post-2026 Hajj Review and NAHCON Reform Agenda in Abuja.

Yusuf said the Commission had commenced post-Hajj reconciliation with Saudi service providers following the conclusion of the 2026 pilgrimage, invoking accountability clauses contained in contractual agreements to address service failures.

He said the Commission would no longer tolerate poor performance by contractors, stressing that it would award future contracts strictly on the basis of service quality.

“Let every service provider, foreign or domestic, take heed. The era in which contractual failure carried no consequence is over. Pilgrims must receive relief for every poor service rendered. Performance will henceforth determine patronage,” he said.

The NAHCON chairman identified lapses in catering services in the Masha’er, gaps in service-provider compliance, accommodation and transportation challenges among the shortcomings recorded during the 2026 Hajj exercise.

He noted that although the pilgrimage achieved orderly airlift operations, improved visa processing through the Nusuk platform and enhanced coordination among stakeholders, the Commission remained committed to addressing every operational weakness.

According to Yusuf, the stakeholders’ summit was convened to conduct an honest assessment of the 2026 Hajj and develop practical reforms capable of strengthening future operations.

He said the Commission’s broader reform agenda includes stricter service standards, enhanced regulatory oversight and improved monitoring mechanisms across all aspects of Hajj administration.

Yusuf urged service providers to embrace professionalism and contractual compliance, assuring intending pilgrims that NAHCON would continue to prioritize accountability, transparency and quality service delivery as preparations for the 2027 Hajj gather momentum.
